Avenged Sevenfold est un groupe de metalcore/hard rock/heavy metal américain initié en été 1999 et originaire d'Huntington Beach en Californie. Le nom du groupe provient de l'histoire biblique de la colère de Dieu face à Caïn pour avoir tué son frère Abel. Pourtant, leur musique n'a rien de religieux, contrairement aux pseudonymes des membres de ce groupe. Connus aussi sous le nom raccourci A7X, ils distillent une musique pour le moins secouée, s'inscrivant dans la suite logique de leurs influences (Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, etc). Un mélange de Punk, Metal et Hard Rock.

<"Le nom réel du chanteur est Matthew Sanders. Il est né le 31 juillet 1981. Avant d'intégrer la formation d' Avenged Sevenfold, il était dans un groupe punk nommé Successful Failure. La petit amie actuelle de M.Shadows, Valary DiBenedetto, est celle qui a commencé en tant que manager du groupe, c'est maintenant Larry Jacobson... Elle fait aussi une apparition sur la chanson "The Art Of Subconscious Illusions".>
